St. Monica Wives and Mothers

Welcome to our sisterhood of Christian Wives and Mothers

Who we are

Who we are

We are a sisterhood of Christian wives and mothers in Brisbane who are united with one another in faith, prayer and fellowship.

We want to love the Lord, grow in relationship with Him and live out our womanhood and vocation as wives and mothers into the fullness of who we are called to be in Christ.

We are guided by the Holy Bible, and Christian theology in the Catholic tradition in all our endeavours.

Who you are

You are a wife, a mother or both!

You want to grow deeper in relationship with God.

You want to be part of a caring and supportive faith community.

You are seeking to connect with other Christian women who want to grow in faith and support each other in our life journey as we grow to become the women, wives & mothers that God created us to be.

About Us

Our Patron Saint

We look to and draw inspiration from St. Monica, a role model for Christian wives and mothers. She persevered in faith and prayer for the conversion of her husband and son, St. Augustine.

Our Core Values

MAGNANIMITY   PERSEVERANCE   HOPE   GODLY LOVE

Magnanimity

“Magnanimity by its very name denotes stretching forth of the soul to great things” (St. Thomas Aquinas).

Magnanimity inclines the soul to do great things for God. Magnanimity, by definition, means “great-souled person,” one who is growing into the fullness that God created her to be, utilising all one’s gifts and talents. The word is from the Latin, magnus, meaning large, great and animus meaning mind, soul. Magnanimity is discovering God’s unique gifts and talents in one’s own life and how that life can be lived in its fullness — not settling for becoming less than God created one to be.

The greatness of a magnanimous person is also in her humility of service to and for others, reaching out and lifting others up.

"I can do all this through Jesus Christ who gives me strength." Philippians 4:13

Perseverance

Perseverance is constancy, firmness and unwavering conviction in pursuing one's goals and in keeping faith with one's purposes. It is the strength to continue on the path taken or in the chosen conduct. In Catholic moral theology, perseverance is seen as a virtue that commits a person to fight for the achievement of good, without succumbing to obstacles and without being overcome by fatigue and despair.

"Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him." James 1 :12

"You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised." Hebrews 10:36

"For nothing will be impossible with God." Luke 1:37

Hope

Hope is not merely optimism but an act of trust that God, who did not abandon Christ to the powers of sin and death and the devil, will also not abandon us.

Hope dares to believe that God’s purposes will be fulfilled even if we cannot foresee how this will be possible or when such fulfillment will take place.

"But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not be faint." Isaiah 40:31

"Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer." Romans 12:12

"Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from Him. Truly He is my rock and my salvation. He is my fortress, I will not be shaken." Psalm 62:5-6

Godly Love

Godly love is a spiritual love that God through His Holy Spirit enables us to have. Godly love is selfless and sacrificial. As Jesus said: “This is My commandment: Love each other in the same way I have loved you. There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends” John 15:12-13.

"Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us." 1 John 4:7-12

Our Founder

Hello! My name is Ella. I am the founder of St. Monica Wives and Mothers. I'd like to tell you a little about myself.

I am a cradle Catholic, and have always been immersed in the faith. In 2004 however, I was at a retreat called 'Come and See' and had the most amazing encounter with the Lord - my life, since that 'Pentacost moment' has never been the same! That moment was flooded with the purest and most powerful love I'd ever experienced! It gave me a deeper sense of meaning and purpose in my life. I was renewed, refueled and refilled with the Holy Spirit!

I am a wife and mother, a counsellor with my own private practice, an educator, a Christian speaker, and above all, a lover of Jesus! I have held several positions both professionally and voluntary related to my faith; a teacher in Catholic schools, a Youth Ministry Coordinator, as well as being part of several Catholic teams and groups.

I have a passion for psychology, cultural diversity, Catholic theology and spirituality, travel, art, baking, writing and research. I am on a soulful journey focused on Jesus, growth, learning and unconditional love.
